The essay, starting from a little-known work of art, the reliquary of the skull of the Blessed Gerland kept at the Diocesan Museum of Caltagirone, deepens this figure of thirteenth century knight of the Order of St John who spent part of his life in Caltagirone, Sicily. The Blessed Gerland is one of the most popular early saints and heroes of the Order, who until now has been considered of Nordic origin, in particular Polish or German.

The article deals with the inventory of 1763 of the giogali owned by the knight of Saint John Fra' Alessio di Ferro, which is located in the State Archives in Trapani. In particular, these are some notes relating to the silver items in his possession. Alessio di Ferro was an illustrious exponent of one of the most prominent families in the centuries of the city of Trapani linked to the island of Malta.
